I'm a sucker for the old jimmys and the fact that it is a mechanically controlled diesel engine is very appealing to me
I'll be able to service this truck anywhere in North America without expensive diagnostic equipment
Plus have you ever heard a detroit diesel sit and idle?music to my ears

I have decided to cut the roof of the box down to an inside height of 7 feet once insulated
Been working on my new cab and doors to get ready for paint
I'll take pics as I go
I bought a salvage camper to use a bunch of stuff to save time (Like holding tanks and plumbing )

What is your overall height now? I opted for basement mounted mini splits to keep the profile low and I have almost 8 ft ceilings. Overall I'm still only 12ft 2 inches. The extra ceiling height is fantastic.

Height right now is 12' 9"
Will end up being 11' 3" plus height of a.c. units
I think it will look more proportionate with lower height

Took the box off the frame to use it as a storage unit
Figured if I was going to lower the roof, cut in a cab overhang and fill in the back door I might just as well make a living quarters from scratch
The original box had 1.5" hardwood between frame and box
Do I need to duplicate this or can I mount it directly to frame with 1/2" plate tabs bolted through frame?

Every box I have ever seen has had hardwood between the truck frame and box frame, a kind of sacrificial wear plate.

Keep your insurance adventures posted. It's always an issue with built-not-bought units. Thx.
