underbody toolbox or storage

Hi. I'm new on this forum and just getting started on a build. I have an International 4300 with a 26' box. But there is nothing underneath. I would love to use the space for storage and tanks. I've looked at new toolboxes, but they are way too expensive for me. And I haven't had much luck finding good second hand ones.

Does anyone have some experience building them or just have some advice for creating some storage under the box?

Thanks in advance.

Here's my truck.

How well are your fabrication and welding skills? There is a lot of potential there, look for some trailer under boxes if you can't build your own. Cause paying for someone to custom build and ship something there is going to be expensive and might not always come out right.

Here is my build though haven't updated it in a bit.

Ya, I would love to find some. I just haven't had much luck on facebook market place. Do you have any suggestions for where to look or what to search for?

Thanks!

Thanks. Hopefully I can find some.

Has anybody built them? Anyone have a simple design? What type of hardware(hinges, latches, etc.) did you use? I'm very new to welding, but that might be the only affordable way for me to cover the whole bottom.

Wouldn't do the whole bottom I would save space for water and holding tanks unless you plan on using a portable toilet. ASME/DOT tanks I would use for propane tanks mounted to the underside and I would suggest a diesel heater for heat. Lastly there is a lot of real estate on your roof for plenty of solar, I would go with 24V for your rig.

We have been living in this rig past 2 years traveled over 15k miles and speak from experience.

Will post more in the morning...

Thanks.

I actually do have solar. I also thought the 24v would be a good idea. I'm planning on a composting toilet. But I would like to have a grey water tank under and possibly an extra freshwater tank(I'll also have one inside for when it's freezing). Definitely propane tanks. I was wondering if I can store the batteries outside?

Oh, I've also already installed a diesel heater!

Here's what she looks like right now.

Looks a lot cleaner and better than first pictures. Unless you plan on going with AGM's you better put the batteries outside in a place that won't eat up anything with hydrogen sulfide which is also explosive. How many AH's you plan on putting in?
Problem with you already putting that diesel heater in unless you went with a 24V one you are now going to need a step down converter. Got a 24V one and they aren't easy to find, you won't find vent fans at 24V either. My freezer/fridge both run on 24V/12V or AC. Not like a home freezer/fridge more of chest freezer and chest fridge.

We operate a small organic teaching farm near the outskirts of Eugene Oregon.

Anderson Brothers Truck Dismantler handles Class 6 and heavier trucks.
On our walks through the yard, we occasionally see underbody boxes.
