Building my first class 8. was wondering if any one had built a 20 foot garage? Would like to take my crew cab pickup.
Was thinking about tapering frame down behind tandems and putting some type of cylinders to level out when loaded. Was wondering also how much over hang behind tandems i could have. Someone told me 8 foot. I have 11 foot on my 33 foot camper now. |
....length is dependent an many a factor....cost is the main one and second is the ability or turn or move it into tight quarters....I'd say just off-[even without figuring the cost at maybe a $1000 a foot ]that it would be cheaper to rent a car or even build a SMART deck...geofkaye

what is a smart deck?
|
....older SMART CAR set sideways on a deck built on the back of a semi tractor with a 5th wheel hitch stepped back behind the axle center line to pull a 5th wheel trailer....a guy on the Escapees list [Henry Symitz] builds some interesting things including a special air ride trailer hitch for 5th wheel trailers which is extraordinary compared with many commercial hitches....IMHO he is the best in the trailer hitch industry with the hitch that he designs and builds....called the ET or Junior ET....as it were....geofkaye

volvoman, there have been some 20' garage motorhomes built by Renegade, with a 4,000 lb. liftgate door. The problem is the living quarters gets so small- it really is not feasible. If you were thinking of more overhang, anything over 8' will start to drag on some smaller inclines. They did build a 17' garage with 17' living quarters that was pretty livable- but no bedroom.
