Larry, you say to never, ever, ever buy a spring ride tractor...the 98' Century Class Freightliner I'm looking at has springs in the front, bags in rear. The salesman says "bags on the front would blow often at the tune of $1500 ea." Am I looking at a badly designed tractor? Everyone says these things ride great!

HI Patrick,

When referring to "spring ride" I meant springs on the drive axles as opposed to air suspension. All the tractors I have ever seen or driven have front springs.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Larry

Patrick,

I believe that must be a case of a salesperson blowing smoke to try to steer you into buying whatever he had on hand and I would therefore be suspicious of anything he said after that, or better yet blow him off and go to another salesperson. Bill Rowell (warpath) installed a Brocks air ride system on the front of his FLD and I haven't seen any posts from him complaining of blowing the front bags. Since that system was designed for class 8 trucks, it's unlikely that would occur on a regular basis.
