I have a friend who is purchasing a new Motorcoach in Mighigan. He tells me it has a 40,000 towing capacity and some special heavy duty hitch. My question is, can that hitch be adapted to tow a 2" coupler? I want to purchase an enclosed trailer from the same place. Since we live in PA, it is much easier for him to just bring it home with him when he picks up his new rig. If there is something we can purchase to make this happen, can you point me in the right direction. Thanks!

They use a 2 5/16" ball with 2 1/8" shank(I think) anyway it is bigger than a standard 2" ball. So you need to get a 2" ball and a bushing for the hole in that hitch. I had to scramble around Elkhart when I picked up my conversion to pull the car hauler back home which had a 2" hitch.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the reply. I am told that it is solid hitch or ball or something. That's what's confusing me. I know there has to be some solution either way because not everything out there pulling behind these rigs are 2 5/16.

We removed the ball and welded a 2" receiver in it's place, now I can tow whatever i want.

I don't have any heavy duty experience with other than Holland and Fontaine factory tractor hitches.

I don't think anyone tows 40K with any type of ball hitch though??? What type of trailer will you be towing? I doubt seriously if it weighs anywhere near 40K.

I took the 2 5/16 ball off my Show Hauler and put in a 2 in ball using a bushing on the shank and pulled a small camper home for a friend. If his hitch is like mine then he should be able to do it. If you have problems let me know.

The hitch on your friends motorhome was most likely made by VRT in Constantine Michigan. The dealer can have VRT make a hitch for a 2" reciever so that you can tow anything.
