About the soonest we can trust the roads to be clear of ice and salt is last week in April. That's in Minnesota you guys. So, I don't usually get my rig out of the shop until the beginning of May. I would guess we're more likely to be able to get a bunch of sites before schools get out for summer? Or after school starts up again in the end of summer? I've got a nephew and wife's cousin in Savannah. Nephew over in Fayetteville, NC too. So we wouldn't mind making the drive down that way for the Rally and then go visit relatives. My wife is going to retire in June. So I vote for a fall Rally. But I might be able to convince her to take some time in May.

I like the location. However, we must dance around the break schedules of three different schools. I won't chime in on the scheduling, I'll just keep my fingers crossed that y'all pick a date that we can work in.

March rules out a run for me. No way the roads are clear enough up here.

its just the wife and I - oh and our new puppy (god what were we thinking).
we're pretty flexible (w/ notice), these things take planning....if for nothing else just to snag the spaces/right number of spaces.

Id be happy to keep this (1st) one small - but there are a few folks on the Truck Conversion FB page that should be invited (namely Phyllis & Richard Schell)....my point is I dont know if yall wanna open it up to a larger group or not.

It doesn't matter to me. My interest is to meet the folks who helped me with my TC purchase and continue to learn from other TC owners. I would like to see it stay TC (and maybe HH) only.

No matter what we do, there are certainly going to be people that have date conflicts. Just no way around that. I think if we find a good location that has lots of space we are covered if we have a large turnout. I'd guess the first annual will not have a huge turnout. The HDT Rally has gotten bigger every year I believe. What about looking into county or state fairgrounds? Most of those have pretty large camping areas that are empty unless the fair is going on. That's what the HDT guys do.

As far as who gets to come? I say everybody and anybody that wants to. I want to help spread the word about the benefit of a Truck Conversion. By welcoming all I think we show those that don't have one how great the owners are by including them in the "Group."

I see this "Truck Conversion Rally" as a primarily a social gathering. But secondary, a tech and educational gathering.

I'm game for allowing the FB guys to come as well. I doubt we can get a group of sites at a premium campground after June 1st. Although some companies like KOA will allow you to reserve specific sites for a small fee and everyone else is just stuck in where ever.
Maybe we should check with state parks in Ga,Tn,NC, and SC. Someone should check with places like Red Gate Farms in Savannah that advertise rally space.
I also agree that the dates will not be right for everyone. Just set it and forget it. If the rally grows, then folks will arrange their schedule for what is important to them. (weather permitting of course). We do a BMW rally in Asheville the weekend BEFORE Memorial day ( Crappy dates right?) and they turn cars away like crazy. we all just plan in advance and make it work.

Looks like the North Carolina State Fairgrounds has lots of camping. I don't know anything about the Raleigh, NC, area. https://www.ncstatefair.org/accommodations.htm

Keep me posted on the dates, would love to meet everyone and check out their rigs. There is a veterans park campground here in mt airy, 27030. Not a lot to do around here but there are some beautiful scenery, and of course you could visit "Mayberry" our town is the hometown of Andy Griffith and his show was loosely based on our little town

I missed this first time around last summer, but I think it would be fun. I'm in NE Cincinnati area, so kind of around the areas you are discussing would be fine with me.

Figured it out and dropped a pin for my location on the map.

If anyone is going to the ECR HDT rally, they could check on that campground for possible rally dates. It's in Crossville TN if I remember.

We are going back to Gatlinburg in June to meet some friends. We could look around at some campgrounds there.

How many of you are willing to drive to Savannah?

Savannah would not be too bad of a drive. Is there a good campground there?

We stayed at Red Gate a few years ago, something like 6 miles to the historic district / water front area & less than 25 miles from Tybee island.

the rv park was easy in & out, good (50a) power and they had a rec hall / clubhouse w/ pool table big TV etc...not real fancy (gravel rv pads) but the slots were big....wasnt necessarily cheap, youre paying for convenience....looks like $60 per night

http://www.redgatecampground.com/home.html

says rally requires a minimum of 10 sites, minimum of 3 nights - RV Rally Savannah

Red gate farms is a really nice park. 10 sites would be easy enough. Just offer the excess site up on the hdt forum. 60 bucks is not much more than the sites for the ECR rally in Crossville. Plus Savannah is a fantastic place to spend a few nights.

Just spit balling dates. But how does July 13th thru the 15th sound. Most of the parks will be calmed down from the holiday. And the snowbirds will be long gone. But be warned it will be hot.
