I spent a few days at the sailboat show in Oakland and one of the more interesting things I saw was the vinly floor material that looks just like Teak and Holly floors that are put in expensive sailboats/powerboats.
Here are some links and pictures: https://www.plasteak.com/TAH.htm this company says $7.50/sq ft or 6'side = $45 per lineal foot. Is this a lot of money compared to other vinyl flooring? They also sell a vinyl that looks like teak decks here: https://www.plasteak.com/boating/plasdeck/plasdeck.html Gallery shots: https://www.plasteak.com/boating/plasdeck/gallery.htm If you had a walk on roof, you could put this stuff on it and when people see it they would be amazed if you told them it was teak. You could brag and say that it took you years to complete... Just don't let them touch it. Diamond Plate vinyl: https://www.plasteak.com/boating/flooring/plate.htm Loncoin vinyl: https://www.plasteak.com/boating/flooring/coin.htm https://www.worldpanel.com/lth.htm https://froogle.google.com/froogle_cluster?q=teak+and+ho...le&scoring=mrd&hl= en When standing on it, you are unable to tell the difference from real wood. I think it looks really cool. Anyone have this in their conversion, home, office...? |
I liked the "teak" for outdoor applications. Inside, I've become a fan of natural materials that provide less off-gassing of toxins. We use wood (of course), 100% rubber (Pirelli, Norament, Johnsonite), or Marmoleum (brand of linoleum - made from flax). All are affordable and can be detailed to be quite beautiful. We are about to install a cork floor in our latest project. I'm looking forward to seeing how it comes out.
