Steer Axle Conversion

This is my first time posting to the site, but I have read many threads in the past and have found lots of good info.

I have a 2002 Peterbilt 378 Dump Truck that has super singles on the steer axle, I want to convert to a regular 11r 24.5, can I just buy new wheels and tires and slap them on? or is it going to take more than that?

Welcome, Sir! You should be able to swap rims and tires without much problem.

I don't see why just swapping wheels and tires would cause any problems? The dump truck likely has the super singles on front for floatation on loose soil as much as any reason.

You better check the distance from flange to flange. The heavy fronts(with the big floats) sometimes have different off sets on the wheels. You might also want to consider making the springs lighter for a better ride. Heavy fronts with floats are usually 18 or 20k and ride rough.

I gather you are not using the truck for work anymore. If you are converting to an RV why not wait until after the conversion is done, weigh the beast and then figure out which wheels, springs and rims you should have. I had to increase my springs to 18000 and put 365 series tires with wider rims on mine 'cause it came from the manufacturer overweight. Rides good now. BTW it started with a 16000 front with 315 tires.

I like Gordy's advice.
