My truck's rear leaf springs are way to strong for the weight I carry. SO I had Dsuban springs pull a couple leafs and add a couple spacers. The result: definite improvement! The back end of the truck was so stiff that it was like riding a hard tail Harley. Now there is some flex in the suspension. It doesn't ride like a Caddy, but I would say it rides like a pickup.

Doc
Which springs did they pull?
The little ones next to the rear end housing?
How many springs?
Have you done anything with the wind deflector for the hood?
Thanks in advance

They pulled 2 leaves from the middle. cut them down to the size of a spacer and reloaded the leaves. Something about adding flex to the package, but not putting all the weight on the long springs. Don't want to break a spring.

I didn't do anything to the hood yet, but i did add a wind deflector to the top of the cab. I cut down a roof on a class 8 International and fabricated new brackets. The funny thing is most people use them for fuel mileage (I did add .9mpg), but I wanted to smooth out the box from shaking on the highway. It did tremendously, but another side effect was a smoother box is a quieter box.

Doc
Any chance for a couple of picture's of the two mods?
Interesting the fuel mileage increase with the deflector.

I'll get some up soon. I was hoping to have it painted first, but paint is going to have to wait. Between money and the soon coming winter, I just didn't have the time.

I can't figure out the picture in the post thing, but if you want to see the springs and air foil, go to my member gallery.

to post here, do a bit of html trickery:
post your link to your picture
my example
https://i37.photobucket.com/alb...erTruck/IMG_4542.jpg

then in front of the link, type this [img] with no space between the html and your URL link

then immediately after no spaces type [/img]
I added spaces between the html code and my url link so it will display here without posting the pictures,

same text without the spaces:

I had my first distance trip with the new springs. Its not like air ride, but it is a major difference. Basically the back rides as good as the front. Definitely worth $400. Now I need some shocks. Any suggestions?

geofkaye 11-07-2010 11:23 AM

...IF I RECALL CORRECTLY AND THAT IS A LONG SHOT...THE UPGRADE FOR A MDT IS AROUND $5K RETAIL...FROM JOHN DUSBAN....WHOLE SALE IS MAYBE $2.5K PARTS ONLY.....I COULD DO THE JOB BUT I'M TOO LAZY...I HAVE SEEN THEIR MODIFICATIONS AND IT IS WORTH THE EXTRA $$$ TO HAVE THEM DO THE INSTALL.....PLUMBERS NIGHTMARE IF YOU USE AN ON BOARD COMPRESSOR......geofkaye and the Rivercity Girlz

Doc Weaver 11-07-2010 06:01 PM

the quote I got was $6k....and dsuban was cheap. I think if I can get the rebound controlled by some good shocks, it will be quite improved.

Dodger 11-15-2010 04:26 PM

The springs look great, I figure I will have to do the same to mine. How is the ride now?

Doc Weaver 11-16-2010 05:13 AM

Dodger, the ride is palatable. It doesn't ride like a air bag bus, but it does rides as good as a regular RV. Put it this way; the curtains aren't falling off the wall anymore. https://www.truckhome.com/infopop/emo...icon_smile.gif
