Allison Transmissions offer a 'Retarder' on several models of their automatic transmissions. Does anyone have experience with these as far as how the price, performance, and reliability compare with engine or exhaust brakes?

For more info, see Allison Retarder

We had one on a Ford cabover that was used in the mountains of Southern Cal. It was really great. It had more holdback than an engine exhaust brake. You could drive that thing down the hill like a sports car.

we had one in a borrowed coach that we used for 6kmi it also had an exaust brake if the 3126 only had as much go power as the trany and bake had stop power it then would have been a great match

.....I messed with an electric retarder on a coach a year or so ago.....heat output was tremendous under the coach but was silent down mountains held up well as it converted movement to heat with magnets and electric current.....neat Idea but Ihave no idea what It costs.....geofkaye
