24.5 Vs 22.5
My coach is fitted with 285/75R24.5 tires which are due for replacement. The 24.5s are a little hard to come by. I have noticed the 11R22.5 tires have the same diameter and capacity as the 24.5s I have some 22.5 wheels available. Is there a reason to stick with the low-pro 24.5 tires?

22.5s
I run 22.5s on mine! They are a little cheaper and as you said seem to be more common on the road

Thanks for the answer Mike!

2003, we converted a 1997 Ford CF8000 commercial truck to our concept of an ExpeditionVehicle.
Swapping from 22.5 to 24.5 on the front axle adds about three inches ground-clearance under the radiator. For the rough tracks to the remote mountain lakes and isolated Baja beaches we prefer, the additional ground-clearance works for us. We operate a small organic teaching farm near the outskirts of Eugene Oregon. Farmers and loggers abound around us, so ground-clearance helps keep equipment earning. Accordingly, our local heavy-truck suppliers automatically stock 24.5 tires and wheels. |
