:( I live in AZ, and I'm considering a MDT conversion. Can you help me understand what all you had to get done to get the vehicle titled? 3 years is a loooooong time to deal with the professional Maroons at the state...what was the hold-up, what resolved it? |
My truck was a "Tractor" with a fifth wheel plate. That was the big problem. Their are like 5 or 6 things the truck must have to move into the "RV" class. The truck must have 3 or 4 of them to pass.
So the big thing will be was it a "Tractor" . It can be done but that is a real pain. |

Bathroom
Power supply other than the truck (gen-set) Food prep area. Cook top Bed area. Can't remember the others. Should be able to find them on the net. |
Around here its 4 of the following 7.
Most insurance companies only consider it with #1 as mandatory. 1- permanently mounted toilet 2- pumped and drained water 3- cooking appliance 4- fridge 5- independent heat 7- bed Government is same but doesn't seem to care about toilet just 4 of 7. cheers, |

#6- independent electrical system
Good thing this place is so quiet or I would have been called out a hundred times on ol #6. |
In Oregon, I registered these as RecreationVehicles:
* 30' OTR semi-trailer (I toted this with a 1974 Chevy CO semi-tractor licensed as a pickup truck... YeeHaw!) * 1984 Peterbilt CO with condo and 16' box (276" wb... Yikes!) * 1997 Ford CF8000 reefer van (Our full-time live-aboard since 2003, twenty-four months twenty-four thousand miles around south America, Alaska, Panama. Summers around remote mountain lakes, winters on isolated Baja beaches) * 1966 Zeiman commercial flatbed trailer (I mounted a 16' box, and call it our toy-hauler) * 1965 40' OTR reefer semi-trailer and my latest project: * 2006 garbage-truck. RecreationVehicle, each and all. . In these, I install traditional RecreationVehicle components as required by TheLaw©: * place to evacuate my bowels/bladder * place to snooze * place to cook * place to shower. I added a library, furniture from a stand-still house, and homey knick-knacks. . . re: register/license . The government agents want my money. They have no interest in my use after I pay and leave the bureaucracy. In fact, the faster they get me gone, the quicker the next paying customer can fork-over their hard-earned. . . I hear about folks working for months/years on their perfect ideal rig. I often playfully ask: * might you be over-thinking this? |
Probably over thinking, but are there any details about truck conversion I should be aware of? I have an flhd with a coffin sleeper that will pull a mayflower van "if I ever get done with it lol"
