We too winter camp in ski resort parking lots & at trail heads but I just leave the water tank heater on. It uses very little propane and I have had no issues with lines freezing.

Its still in a box in my garage, so I cant say yet. It does have built in freeze protection. So I think it will kick itself on if it gets too cold. I have never used the water in our current rig.
