Just a few questions. I am looking at a truck that has a series 50 detroit engine. What kind of HP/Torque are they capable of? How are they are pulling hills? Its in a 33k GWV truck. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks ~Kirk |
Series 50 is a 4 cyl version of the 6 cyl Series 60 --- and as such can have a variety of HP and Torque. You'd need to take the VIN number to the truck manufactures shop and they should be able to give you the info - or a Detroit Diesel shop can connect the computer to the engine and give you a report.
A few of the bus conversion guys have installed these engines in their coaches... don |
Kirk-
The Series 50's I've seen or heard about USUALLY had approx. 330-350 HP, which isn't too bad for RV use. Torque numbers don't ring a bell right now, but figure about 2/3 of what a 500HP series 60 would have. That will at least get you in the ball park. I hope this helps you! Gary |
