hdt tagged in louisiana?

Does any one know how hard it is to tag and insure a toter home in Louisiana.
I'm building a 1981 conv. Peterbilt . I don't want to make an RV out of it just a single axle toter with a 36" sleeper. Can someone please steer me in the right direction for registration and insuring?

What are you planning to use it for?

Also there is a thread devoted to title/license issues, but I don't remember anything specific to LA.

Welcome!

From the standpoint of DMV ... does iet become a big pickup truck with large cap enclosed box then?

You might want to check with the companies that sell the MDT trucks converted for pulling large fifth wheel horse trailers, race trailers, and RV's. Many of those don't have have a toilet or stove or refrigerator; which in many states is what makes it an "RV".

Good luck, keep us posted. Pictures are always appreciated.

Have you checked out the HDT section of the Escapees forum? HDT - Escapees Discussion Forum

There are lots of people using hdt's to pull their 5th wheel campers there. First thread to read should be this one: The Heavy Haulers Resource Guide & HDT Rally Site - Escapees Discussion Forum

That's the resource guide. I bet you might find your license question answered there. I think there is a state by state listing.

Good luck. Sounds like a cool idea.

I have a W900 that I singled, with a B plate and use Thumb insurance. The plate cost around $50 a year and insurance for 5ver and truck is $1100/year. (full coverage for both)
