I am new here and let me say awesome. My wife and I pull a 30' travel trailer. My 3/4 ton diesel trucks pull it ok. I want something that pulls it great, and would like something we can stay in if we want to take the boat. I want to do the build myself and have the fabricating experience to do it. 1) I live in Ohio what do I have to do to get it licensed as a MH. 2) Would like to be able to seat 6 in seatbelts if the crew is going. 3) would like to have a box on the back with the same creature comforts as the trailer. Any and all ideas and advice appreciated. I really want to do this myself.

So you're thinking a truck with a large sleeper converted to 4 nice captain's chairs? Then a living quarters box about maybe 14'? With a deck on the back for the 5th wheel hitch? That should about do it for you I think. If you just go day cab and have your passengers ride in the living room or dinette that would work, wouldn't it? That would allow you to have a larger living quarters with the deck for the 5th wheel hitch still.

These types of rigs are no problem to license as a rv also. Start going smaller with less rv type items and you have to make sure you've got what your state requires to license as an rv.

Bob thanks for the reply. I thought about the daycab route and havent ruled it out yet. If I went with a sleeper how much overhang past the rears could I go? what is involved in extedning length past the rears? double frame and bolt?
