Schwintek Slide Out?
 
I've been researching various types of slide outs and the Schwintek set-up looks very appealing, and I was wondering if anyone had installed these before. And if so, what was the cost of all required parts? Also, I watched the YouTube videos, but don't remember hearing what the weight or room length capacities are, if they mentioned them. Does anyone know? If I build my T/C, I would be using steel for the box and slides, but might go with aluminum on the slides to save weight.

Any help would be great!

No personal knowledge, I did however just watch the whole install video and liked the simplicity of the system, keep us posted.. G

So, I emailed LCI about the slide outs. In a nutshell, everything will run about $700 each slide. There are limitations on the size and weight of the slides if built with steel, but if built with aluminum, you can have a pretty big slide.

You can get almost any depth you want, but this depends on the material you build your slide with. With mine, it was suggested to only go 18-22" on two that were about 13' long, and I could get up to 25" on my two that were 10' and 8', and using steel for the framework. But if I use aluminum, I could get closer to 30-36". But, I'm trying to figure out the engineering and cost difference first to see if it's worth the extra $$$ to go with aluminum tube.

I'm only in the planning stages. Haven't built my T/C yet, just researching all of my parts and options. Besides, it's easier to reach me by message on the forum or by email, because of my work schedule.

Just remember, the deeper you go with the slide, the deeper into your living quarters they are when not extended. I test drove a t/c when I was shopping that had slides on both sides of the living room. When they were in it almost shut it off from the cockpit. It was hard to converse with people in the living room while driving. And if you're set up for the night somewhere you can't put the slides out it's pretty cramped. Remember, you're not supposed to run the slides out when "camping" in the Walmart lots. Bad etiquette. Another thing I'd worry about is my feeling that the bigger you go the more likely they are to break, or need more maintenance. When I had my 3 car garage built I specified 3 individual doors, rather than the more common large door and small door. My thoughts were the smaller doors would work better longer than a large door. The guy putting in the doors said he agrees with me. Much less problems with the smaller doors.

I have definitely thought this over, and I think all the slides, except the bed slide, would be 24" or less deep, just for the reasons you stated. I figure that if I had at least 4' of open floor in the main living area, then it would feel too cramped while WM camping, or similar. As long as the bathroom is fully accessible, I'm OK, lol.I've been looking at Powerhouse T/C's for ideas, as well as Class A & C motorhomes.
