The recently highlighted picture about the converted muffler has spiked my interest. Anyone have any details? Ideas? Experiences?

My other vehicles are motorcycles. Loud pipes are a positive to me. But there is a difference between LOUD and making your presence known. You should still be able to talk near the vehicle at idle. Anything that can take the edge off the volume but maintain the rumble (bass) and power is a positive in my book. I've built various exhaust systems for my scoots and wouldn't have a problem building one for Suzy Q (Volvo 610, Cummings engine).

Anyone know of proven modifications or sources for different muffler setups?

seems i'm just too full of answers tonite. i'm runnin' a straight pipe . it's louder than stock but we [my wife alie and i ] talk all the time. we find that it's not objectionable unless ummm ,say you're goin' down the west side of eisenhower, then the jake gets obnoxious, but for us it's really not a problem. it is a stack and it's turned out. still no where as loud as a '67 427 'vette with side pipes tho. oh you can stand at the outside of the passenger door and talk normally with the engine runnin'. mase

The Turbocharger takes a lot of the obnoxious noise out of the picture. You can get away with far less of a muffler and still keep your sanity and not annoy others too much. Old unmuffled 2 stroke detroits are about the noisyest thing out there. Not too many left running like that.
