HDT with a small living quarters, 20' or more garage, and lift gate for my vintage Cup car that I road race. Thanks for your interest. Dick in Wisconsin

Does that mean there is an untapped market?

Anyone have experience with lift gates that will handle a 17' long, 3500# car?

ed s 12-23-2010 07:19 PM

check Eldorado Trailer sales....Then may be able to fix you up. Dont worry if they do not have on on the lot...Call Abby or Charlie...tell them Ed told you to call and they may be able to find what you are looking for...........good folks to work with.

Eldorado Trailer sales is in Rosendale, Wi.

Bought my rig from them.

I don't think I've seen one with that big of a garage. I wonder if the problem would be that if you made it with one that big it wouldn't leave you enough room for nice living quarters? 45' max overall length for the single unit. Now, your car is 17' so figure you're going to use up roughly 20' of landscape there (you've got to be able to get around it to strap it down and such, and the lift gate is going to take up about 1' at least). Leaves you 25'. Now, the truck chassis is going to be roughly 10' if you built it with a day cab (no sleeper). Now we're down to 15'. Ouch. I'd rather pull a trailer and have nice roomy living quarters. Most states allow 75' length for truck and trailer, I think. That would also make it easier to sell should you get out of the game. I'd bet it would be cheaper to get together a rig using a trailer too. Is there some reason it all needs to be one unit? I pull a 24' enclosed v-nose single car trailer, loaded it's about 8k. There is absolutely no way to tell that it's back there unless I look in the mirror or the backup camera. These trucks are so good at towing.

Bob ... those are good points. I pull a 24' enclosed trailer with a 1/2 ton Suburban now. Ideally I'd like to start with a Peterbilt 379, 131" from bumper to back of cab (11'). I forgot about the 1' for the lift gate ... 45-11-1-20= 13' for living space. I don't need room for 4 or 6 or 8. There are only two of us. But then I need to be concerned about resale. In amateur road racing ... SCCA regional and national events and Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs ... many of the driver show up with a spouse or a friend or a kid ... they don't bring an army to crew the car. I was thinking about having a high enough ceiling in the garage that I could get the about 30" or 36" up off the floor and put tires and stuff between the car and floor either side of the walk through aisle. Those are my thoughts. I'm about 10,000# or 11,000# with the trailer, car, big generator, and equipment. ONe piece of equipment is easier to park at home too.

Ed: I grew up in Shawano and went to college in Madison ... drove through Rosendale many, many times. I just might do that! Dick

Bob86ZZ4 12-26-2010 11:22 AM

Hay, Donnie Barnes is building one that might be what you are thinking about: MobileMe Gallery

Transport Designs is actually the company building it for Donnie: Custom Motorhomes, Motorcoaches, Toterhomes, Truck Sleepers, and Enclosed Trailers :: Transport Designs

Maybe they might know of one of their garage coaches that somebody might be selling? I'd give them a call and see.

Dick my friend in Marengo Il has one for sale. Its a Kenworth wants $80,000 for it. Can email you some pictures if you want. His phone # is 815-568-7204 his name is Randy. I think a truck can be 45 ' plus lift gate. I'm also building one like you want. It has a 20' garage with toy hauler rear door. Volvo with sleeper. Steel frame for walls is done. Just starting to put osb inner walls up. I'm in Rockford Il if you want to look at it also.

#90-GTSC 12-26-2010 06:53 PM

Thanks for the leads and idea. I race at Blackhawk Farms quite a bit. Are you building a hauler yourself? or Having one built for you? I would be interested in seeing it.

Dick

Bob86ZZ4 12-26-2010 07:35 PM

My buddy is John Boos. He's been to Blackhawk Farms a bunch of times. He says it's a great track. He's a Vette guy. I'll bet I'll be down there this summer sometime. My son has a '99 Vette that he's campaigning in NASA ST-U so far.

volvoman 12-27-2010 08:01 AM

I'm building my own. Give me a call when you get in town and i will be glad to show you. Phone # 815-871-2112.

I believe that Hawk Engineering made a garage coach for someone hauling a car as well. Home Page

I'm in a similar boat as well because of what I'm hauling (car or my rock crawler which is 15' long), but since my budget will dictate a used coach, I'm likely to end up pulling a trailer.

Bob86ZZ4 01-03-2011 12:04 PM

Here's one with a 17.5' garage: 2007 40' SHOWTIME TOTERHOME CARHAULER SLIDE For Sale

Looks pretty nice, bright color too.
