Box truck on class 8 frame

I have a 2013 Prostar that I am thinking about converting by having one of the drive axles removed along with the fifth wheel and putting on a box truck. Want to use it for weekend getaways and some mobile work. I have read MN's requirements for conversion but want to know how many folks have added a box.

Mine started life as a line haul truck. That was extended and had a box added. It caused a few complications during the build. It would have been not much more effort or cost to just build it all from scratch. In the end it made a wonderful RV and is very sturdy.

Mine started life as what's referred to as an Expeditor, which meant a sleeper with a 24' box, plus lift gate and drop axle to deploy as (if) needed. It's very versatile.

Have you already purchased the truck in question? If not, what you're considering is a heck of a lot work. I'm just think why reinvent the wheel when trucks like mine are readily available?

Around 2001 or so, we mounted a sixteen-foot box on our 1984 Peterbilt cabover.

Prior to our acquisition, the rig was operated by a moving company. It had the largest sleeper... plus a 8x8 condo. With a 276" wheelbase, it devoured parking-lots.

Every rig is a stage in evolution. Our current rig is a 1997 Ford CF8000 with a 176" wheelbase. It's handier in tight situations. We did south America twenty-four months twenty-four thousand miles. Alaska Panama, all over north America. It serves us well... and is constantly evolving.

24 months, 24k miles, South America . . . woo hoo! Tell us more.
