Wanna take a ride, in a racing mustang???
This link here will show you what it looks like from a helmet mounted camera in the cockpit of the racing modified Mustang named Voodoo. Looks really easy... Keep in mind, he's doing over 400-425 mph, is only 100' above the ground with his eyes searching for the next pylon. He's extremely busy flying the plane, watching for other planes, gauges, instruments and listening for motor sounds...so it's really quite dangerous. Sort of a bad place to sneeze or have a stinging bee fly around your face... https://www.truckhome.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif This video gives you an idea of what the view would be like if you could be a passenger and just go along for the ride. The video that says "Voodoo Helmet Cam" 2:25 secs will take you from takeoff and around the track. If you look carefully, you can see some of the turn pylons on the ground and at approx 1 min 39 secs into the video, you will be able to see the start/finish pylon as he rounds and flys by it. He's flying the course that is in this valley here. You can see his left hand on the throttle and his right hand on the control stick. https://voodooairracing.com/video.cfm |
BravestDog,
Thanks for the Reno video clips. Brings back old memories attending the air races in the late 70s. Gene |
Hey 'Dog-
WATTATRIP!! Thanks for posting the video clips! You don't begin to appreciate what goes on until you see it for yourself. Thanks again! Gary |
He isn't going 400 in the first long video. 250 or so, maybe less. Still very cool.

If the video is accurate in time, you should be able to figure out what plyon he's around and then measure the time to the finish pylon and do the math to get the speed. Providing that can be done. Anyone up for that? Does anyone know which gauge is the speedo? and can anyone tell by the speedo how fast he's going? |
