TV hole
 

I am starting different threads to talk about different things I am doing to my Renegade. So ....Going to mount a bigger flat screen in the tv area, and behind all that is the dvd player, The Nomad 2, a desktop computer, a wifi repeater/router I hope a cell phone signal booster, what am I forgetting?
Here the pictures of the mess that was in there before taking down the wall across the front that held the tv that is on the bed right now. It was fixed and you had to sit on the couch to view it up over your head. Going to make it where you can sit at the table and view it too. I'll have the after pictures up in a few days, staining the wood now so it gotta look nice!

My rig had a 19" tube set up there. I built a frame out of square steel tubing:

And bolted it in place. I put a good size piece (actually two scraps I had around) of plywood underneath it since the base of that cabinet wasn't as heavy duty as I wanted. I also put another piece of finished wood across the bottom, under the cabinet, to make it all stronger. That piece will be visible in the last picture.

Then I mounted a wall mount with the swivel arm to this frame:

I think it's a 27" unit. I tried driving down the road with it pushed in and it worked it's way out. So, I affixed a couple pieces of wide velcro to the base of the cabinet and stuck the fuzzy side to the bottom edge of the tv. When it's pushed in I just push the velcro strips up to hold the base in. Works great. Sorry I don't have a picture showing that. I like that I can flip it out to aim toward the kitchen, or make it viewable from the one side of the dinette (other side is right under it). I can also easily get back there to mess with the wires or stuff some other items up there for storage.

That hole on the right is where the dvd/stereo is. It used to house a vcr and the satelite box. I tossed the vcr out. I have Directv and when we go on the road I take the box from our house bedroom and stick it on top of the dvd/stereo and hook the wires up. Not the cleanest look but it works fine. I keep a bungy cord up there to strap the box down.

I used pretty substantial bolts and nylock nuts too. Don't want anything coming loose. This is a lcd tv. I think the led tv's are lighter so probably wouldn't have to make it so heavy duty?

our previous owner did something similar to what bob has done....but he used a 2x4 and mounted the bracket to the 2x4 - it works, not pretty (when the TV is folded out)....i think i may just hang a black cloth over the hole so you don't see all the nasty wiring & 2x4.

Looks like you build it strong enough, I was thinking a piece of 3/4 stain wood to hide the inside and also use it to swing out with a piano hinge, but your making me rethink my plan....

I'm not sure how you'd do it with a hinge? One thing I probably should have done is make the frame higher so that cross member up top is way up near the top of the opening. This would make it clearer access to put stuff in there when the tv is swung away. The drawback is it would have required me to do more welding over on the left side to make a spot for the wall bracket to mount to. And it would have required me to think ahead to the day I swing it open wanting to stuff something big in there and can't because of that top cross bar.

I noticed that right off, I have stuff to pack in there and I will need better access. But you know seeing and hearing about others help with the process, thanks for sharing!

Hay, you use that vcr? I thought tapes were obsolete? That dvd changer is the exact same one I've got. Do you have a subwoofer under the sofa?

ONCE - kids watched some old "home movies".
I haven't removed it cause it'll just leave a huge blank hole.

yup sub under the sofa. We don't even use the sat dish (we cable subscribers at home, so Im not gonna subscribe to a sat service just for the coach). I get 50GB of data on my mifi/hotspot so we just stream stuff we cant get OTA.

Im thinking of ditching that cd/dvd changer for a sound bar and some different stuff and adding a blue-ray player, but honestly we don't watch much tv...just local news/weather when were traveling.

Where you guys have a long area I have a recliner and the door. So I have to so to say squeeze things in, but it really a lot of room for all the things I have talked about! I too have cable and with this new RV to me I have the nomad dish but not sure about if I want to get Sat TV, I did have Direct but my new home has a huge hill south so I got rid of it. Now that att has it....NO WAY. So all that is left is Dish So I might look into it for our long trips. I am working on the Digital tv and make sure it works.
What does everyone else do for tv when out on the road for a while?, I mean over a month?
