So we all have big trucks an they can pull 30,000 lbs or more. So I was wondering if we wanted to pull a pup all we need to do is add a pindle hitch and head down the road. I know there are rules and other things we need to think about but I was just wondering? What do you guys think?

So, what would be the advantage of a pintle? It would be a bit of a challenge to back up, plus the pup type trailers aren't exactly the most stable from what I have seen.

The dolly the pup rides on uses a pintle hitch, you hook up the dolly and then back up under the pup. On the stable part i have seen both good and fish tailing. Just think of all the stuff you could bring along, anda lot cheaper than a fancy hauler.

I doubt there are any stability problems with that type of hitch/trailer, after all UPS logs millions of miles a year pulling triples like that. I do wonder about clearance on sharp turns (like in a parking lot, not on the highway), depending on how much overhang you have back to the hitch on the truck. Maybe no different than a short tag trailer with a lot of overhang, you have to be careful there too. Would definitely be a ton cheaper than a stacker type trailer and would have room for all the toys you want. Offroad stuff would drive right up, and you can also put a liftgate on the back if needed.

In my opinion it would come down to how you use it, and where you have to maneuver it into. You are very limited as to how far you can back straight up, and zero chance of backing it into a parking slot at the truckstop or a campspot or your driveway. You will have some very limited maneuverability backing up, but for the most part it will be drop it where it is easy to pull up, and rehook when you are ready to go. Also keep in mind you generally can't just unhook the pintle and pull away, you will need to pull the dolly out from under the trailer before unhooking. Just ask an old trucker that tried it and got launched like a slingshot. Read up on the doubles/triples section of the cdl manual:

Yeah, I know it's an RV and you don't need a cdl, but the mechanics would be like hooking up the rear trailer in a double setup.

Thanks hotrod, ton of great information. rv parks are not set up for any more than a car behind them. the only place this type of set would work is a truck stop or the race track.
This would not fit in my back yard either. Sure would love to bring more of my stuff. More thinking to do.

The car in tow is a good analogy, you can back up a little in an emergency, but not real far. There are a lot of the big rig (as in rv "big rig", coach chassis) pulling stacker trailers behind them these days, so parks are getting used to making accommodations to park the trailers off site. If you were going for an overnite or short stay it would take a serious pull thru site for a tc and a pup. I do like the idea though, it would be great for a trailerload of sand toys out in the desert.

Hotrod I was also thinking you can pull a flat bed instead of a pup or a trailer like a moving type, I am sure there is a limit but .... I just got home from two week out and about and I only stayed in two camp grounds, total of 4 days, and one of these did not have pull thru and the other did but.... not long ones. So I have a 42' TC and 5' of touge and then a 20' pup... 67' total that a lot to fit somewhere.

67' isn't bad, my Topkick and toy hauler rig is 60' and I can park that about anywhere. My buddy pulls his toy hauler with a twin screw freightliner with a jeep on the deck ahead of the fifth wheel @ 75'. But he doesn't go in many campgrounds either. Mostly racetracks and boondocking. But I'm thinking those UPS type trailers are 28', not 20'.

Got me thinking about the pup and such, so I just looked at ebay and found this set up, rough as hell but you get the idea.
