cheapest i can find it for is 650 bucks and i cant get them to call me back.

onan wants a little over 750 for it - 305-0953-03 (spec a)

Im not even sure i can get to the control board w/ the gen in the coach/bay, but im gonna have to try...as we leave for a road trip next week.

I have an Onan 50 kw that I fried the start relays on when I disconnected one of the batteries while it was running. I was able to bypass those circuits with simple toggle switches. Cost was about $5 for the switches and an hour or two of time, and of course a very talented friend who who figured it out and installed the switches.

Darn, that sucks Don. I don't know anything about a generator. But, I know slightly more about cars. I think sometimes something will say "such and such is bad." So you put in "such and such" and find out it went bad for some other reason. What I'm saying I guess is maybe it might be a good idea to find a good generator service center and at least have them do a good diagnosis on it? I dunno, maybe it's a waste of money. But, I just fear replacing that part and then finding out it fried out for some other reason. Or, maybe it's not even fried out but whatever tells you it's fried out thinks it's fried out.

how old is the generator? i am looking at 7500 diesel for sale. are they having problems with there units? what would cause controller board to go out?

bushpilot 04-28-2012 09:12 AM

i dont disagree bob, items up or down stream can mask a problem.
ive followed onan diagnostic procedures removing the load and checking for grounds/shorts...problem persists.

i picked up the part last night and have the generator torn apart enough that i think i can get to the old board (its under the air intake in the back of the unit - UGH).

the generator has 2000 hrs on it - and is a 2004...so its no spring chicken....stuff happens.

i cant get it into cummins for a week and they want a minimum of 2 hours diagnostic fee (even if they took 15 minutes to find it)....which adds another 300 bucks or so to the repair....ive got a parts guy to agree to take the board back if it doesnt resolve the problem (mostly cause their is some question about the part number)....but shhhhs dont tell anyone.
