hi guys -

i have just seen a used freighliner on ebay that has "super single" tires on the rear axles.

any thoughts on these?

are they dramatically more expensive to buy?

if you are stuck somewhere and need tire work done - will you be out of luck?

i am thinking that the redundancy of dual rear wheels and being able to get to a service facilty with 1 bad tire out of 4 would be good.

thanks,

gil

I like the sales pitch (improved mileage, reduced replacement cost) and I tried to specify super singles on my M2 but it was declined by Freightliner. Essentially, they said they don't put super singles on single-axle rigs for the redundancy reason that you mention.

A Google search for 'michelin super singles' will turn up several interesting articles. Here's a discussion thread on The Truckers Report
