Hi all,

Thought I would drop a few lines on how my conversion is going.

The truck was bought as a stretched FLD 120 with a 265" wheelbase and has a 24ft Grumman freight body already attached.

We removed the rear roller door first and then set about lowering the roof. Actually we lowered the body by drilling out all the rivets along the bottom edge and slicing a line 15" around the 3 remaining sides. After unbolting the front corner extrusions and plasma cutting the rear steel door supports, we lowered the body to its new height. Reattached the front corners and the rear posts, trimmed them off and riveted the sides back to the bottom edge rail. It sounds so easy, but cutting the stiffeners and aluminum extrusions so as to not damage other surfaces was a little tricky in a few places, especially when it is all blowing about in the wind..... Ha Ha.

We have now cut the entrance door in the side and cut in and built the steps. Three steps inside and an electric step by Kwikee on the outside.

I have ordered the Tuff-R insulation board to go under the 1/2" ply which will line the body and next we frame in for the 2 roof a/c. The under floor bays are being constructed out of 2" angle and will house the tanks, fresh, gray and black, and the Onan Quiet Diesel 12.5kw.

Well, that's the story so far. I added our proposed transmission change to the subject "Transmissions", earlier today.

Happy Holidays.

Peter.

Madbrit-
It looks like you're doing something similar to what I would like to do, that is, using a freight box on a Class 8 truck. Sounds rather exciting! PLEASE keep us all posted with news and photos(if possible) as things progress.
Gary
