In CA the numbers are 10,000 on a trailer and 26,000 on a truck before you need a cdl. You can get a non commercial class A for your rv and then the trailer limit goes away. The problem with a regular commercial license in CA is points are worth 1 1/2, no traffic school and the point total allowed before suspension is dropped by 25%. Coupled with our 55 mph limit with a trailer, it is very easy to drive yourself out of a license. I will be applying for a non commercial class A this year.
