Thats easy-you don't see them with tractors that long.
I only quoted STAA which has no overall length limit so you could therefore use any length of tractor.
While there are 52' trailers only a relative handful exist. No such creature as a 54' trailer. The 53' trailers that you see do not conform to STAA and therefore there IS an overall length limit. 75'.
That Argosy is too long to be 75' overall when hooked to a 53' trailer.
Based on the picture alone I estimate overall length with a 53 would be somewhere between 85 and 90'. that makes it 15' overlength.
However if you use a 48' trailer instead there is no overall length limit and the length of the tractor no longer matters.
That said there is a guy in Wisconsin that pulls a 53' trailer with a REALLY loooooong Diamond Reo Giant that in no way shape or form even comes close to 75'. I believe he is somewhere around 93'. How he gets away with it without permits is beyond me.
