My 94 Powerstroke has 311K problem free miles. You have to take care of them, like anything else. Cavitation is a problem experienced by all Diesel engines to some degree. It is caused by the extreme compression ratio/power stroke firing pressure expanding the cylinder and then the rapid return to orginal size causing a low pressure area in the engine coolant and then the resulting metal damage caused by the collapsing air pocket. The SCA additive provides a protective layer on the coolant side of the cylinder. The PH check is the method to determine the amount of SCA in the coolant. To much, you could clog the radiator, to little, cavitation damage.
